Full, partial or fragile only

Every room, just the rooms you choose, or only the things that break. You decide, the estimate says it.

A full pack means we pack every room, from the kitchen cabinets to the linen closet, and you don't tape a single box. For a larger home, packing can happen the day before the move, so loading can start on time.

A partial pack covers whatever you'd rather not do yourself. One way to split it: you pack the books, linens and clothes, and we pack the kitchen, the glass, the artwork, the mirrors and the lamps.

Fragile-only packing is the smallest version of that, where you do the rest and we pack the pieces that break. Tell us at the walkthrough, or when you request a quote, exactly which rooms or items are ours, so the written estimate covers just that.

Packing what breaks

Plates wrapped one at a time and stood on edge, art kept upright, lampshades in a box of their own.

Plates are wrapped one at a time in packing paper and stood on edge in sturdy dish boxes, with crumpled paper top and bottom. Glasses and stemware are wrapped individually, and nothing heavy goes on top of them.

Framed art and mirrors go in picture boxes or are wrapped in pads and kept upright, and lampshades travel in a box of their own with nothing packed inside. Hanging clothes go straight from the closet into wardrobe boxes, and mattresses go into mattress bags.

Every box is labeled on the top and on one side with the room it's going to and what's inside, so it can be read when boxes are stacked. Boxes holding breakable things are marked fragile and loaded where nothing can crush them.

Unpacking at the other end

From the kitchen alone to every room, unpacked to your plan instead of our guess.

Unpacking is where boxes either disappear in a day or sit in the garage for months. We can unpack as much or as little as you want, from the kitchen alone to every room, with dishes in the cabinets and books on the shelves.

It helps to decide where things go before we start, at least in the kitchen. Tell us which cabinet takes the plates and which drawer takes the cutlery, and we'll unpack to your plan instead of guessing.

If something arrives damaged

You have 60 days to claim in writing. The mover must pay or refuse within 90.

Florida sets a minimum: a mover needs at least $10,000 of liability coverage per shipment for loss or damage its negligence causes, or, if it runs no more than two vehicles, a $50,000 bond or a certificate of deposit instead. What you're paid for a particular item depends on the liability terms in your contract, so ask any mover how those terms treat boxes you packed and boxes it packed.

The Tri-County disclosure that comes with an estimate in Palm Beach County gives you 60 days to put a claim in writing. If a claim is still open after 30 days, the mover owes you an update, and within 90 days it has to pay the claim or turn it down.

So open the boxes of fragile things soon after the move, even if the rest can wait, and anything broken is found well inside those 60 days. Keep the box and its packing until the claim is settled.

Questions about packing and unpacking

All questions
Do you supply the boxes and packing materials?

Yes. When we pack, we bring the boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, tape, wardrobe boxes and mattress bags, and the materials are itemized on your written estimate like every other cost.

How long does packing take?

It depends on how much there is, and on the kitchen most of all, since it holds the most small, breakable things in one room. At the walkthrough we'll tell you whether packing fits into moving day or needs a day of its own.

Do I need to be home while you pack?

Be there when we start, to point out what's coming and what isn't, and again at the end for a last look through the closets and cupboards. In between, you can get on with your day, as long as we can reach you by phone.
