Older cottages, narrow streets

Send photos of the front door and the tightest turn, and we will say what needs to come apart.

Lake Worth Beach has many older cottages, and in one of them a narrow front door, a porch step or a tight hallway decides how a sofa gets in. Measure your largest pieces and send us photos of the front door and the tightest turn inside, and we will tell you before the day what needs to come apart.

In older neighborhoods such as College Park, streets can be narrow, with cars parked along both sides and trees hanging low over the road. Tell us where the truck can stop, how far the carry is to your door and whether a branch could catch a tall box truck, and we will plan the day from there.

Downtown on Lake and Lucerne

Two one-way avenues and weekend festivals. Check the city's event calendar before choosing a Saturday.

The historic downtown is built around Lake Avenue and Lucerne Avenue, which run one way in opposite directions. For a moving truck that means planning the approach, finding a place to stop without blocking a lane and knowing how long it can stay.

Downtown also hosts festivals that close streets for a weekend, so check the city's event calendar before you settle on a Saturday. If the move is to or from a home near Bryant Park and the Lake Worth Lagoon, ask whether an event in the park will fill the nearby streets that day.

Summer moves, planned for rain

Early starts, covered mattresses, no carrying while lightning is close, and a second date in late summer.

The 12.5 miles between our office and Lake Worth Beach are the easy part of a summer move; the weather is harder. Average summer highs at Palm Beach International, a few miles away, are about 90°F, and June, August and September each bring about 8–9 inches of rain, against roughly 3.5 inches in January.

We start early, keep mattresses and upholstery covered between the door and the truck, and stop carrying while lightning is close. The hurricane season peaks around September 10, which is one more reason to keep a second date in mind for a late-summer move; our hurricane-season moving guide covers the rest. If you would rather spend the days before the move on other things, we can also pack and unpack the house.

Moving in Lake Worth Beach: questions

All questions
Will a moving truck fit on my street in Lake Worth Beach?

It depends on the street. On a narrow one we may stop at the nearest legal spot and carry further, and a longer carry takes more time, so mention it when you ask for a quote.

My paperwork says Lake Worth, not Lake Worth Beach. Does that matter?

The city was called Lake Worth until voters added Beach to the name, so older leases, deeds and maps may still use the old one. We plan from the street address, so either name works for us.
