Your rights when you hire a Florida mover
Chapter 507 of the Florida Statutes and Palm Beach County's consumer rules, as the sheet on a mover's clipboard.
What Florida law gives you
Good movers welcome these rules: they are how you tell an estimate from a guess. Ask every mover you compare for each one.
How to check a Florida moverYour rights on moving day
A registered mover
Florida movers must register with the state and print the number, “Fla. IM No.”, on their advertising.
The price in writing, first
An itemized estimate and contract, signed by both of you, before any work starts.
Coverage you can see
At least 60 cents per pound per article, with the option to buy more, disclosed in writing.
A limited deposit
In Palm Beach County, no more than 20% of the estimate up front.
Your things released when you pay
Pay the agreed amount and everything is released and placed inside your home. Medicines and children's things can never be held back.
Time to make a claim
Under the Tri-County disclosure form you have 60 days to file a written claim, and an answer is due within 90.
